Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) supports men whose testosterone has declined below a healthy range and who have related symptoms. It is prescribed only when medically appropriate, after a live evaluation and lab work with a licensed Florida provider.
How it works
About hormone therapy for men
As men age, testosterone levels can gradually decline. For some men, low testosterone is linked to symptoms such as low energy, reduced libido, difficulty maintaining muscle, changes in mood, and poor sleep. A blood test measures your levels, and a provider decides, together with you, whether treatment is appropriate.
When it is appropriate, testosterone therapy aims to restore levels toward a healthy range under medical supervision. Your provider selects the approach, starts conservatively, and adjusts it based on your lab results and how you respond over time. Testosterone is a controlled medication, so periodic monitoring is a routine part of care.
Individual results vary, and no specific outcome is promised. Your provider sets realistic goals with you and adjusts treatment based on your symptoms and your lab results.
Controlled substance information
- Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law and the law of the State of Florida.
- It is prescribed only by a DEA-registered licensed provider, and only after a synchronous live video evaluation. Florida permits the prescribing of Schedule III through V medications by telehealth (Fla. Stat. § 456.47).
- Before issuing any controlled-substance prescription, the provider reviews the patient's history in Florida's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (E-FORCSE), as required by Florida law (Fla. Stat. § 893.055).
- Conservative quantity limits apply. There are no automatic refills; each refill requires a follow-up evaluation with your provider.

Who it may be right for
Adult men in Florida with symptoms of low testosterone confirmed by lab work may be candidates. Eligibility is determined by your provider during your live evaluation and depends on your medical history, current medications, and lab results. You must be 18 or older.

Who it may not be right for
Hormone therapy is a prescription treatment. It requires a medical evaluation, baseline and follow-up lab work, and ongoing monitoring, and it is not appropriate for everyone.
This treatment is generally not appropriate if you have:
- Untreated prostate cancer or breast cancer
- Plans to father children in the near term (testosterone therapy can reduce fertility)
- Untreated severe sleep apnea or uncontrolled heart failure
- An elevated red blood cell count (hematocrit) your provider has not addressed
What your provider monitors
Testosterone is a controlled medication that calls for periodic lab work to check your hormone levels, red blood cell count, and other markers. Your provider adjusts your plan based on these results and how you feel.
Seek immediate medical care for chest pain, shortness of breath, a sudden severe headache, weakness or numbness, swelling or pain in a leg, or signs of an allergic reaction.
